Digital Nomads in Amsterdam

Known for its vibrant atmosphere, liberal culture, and progressive mindset, Amsterdam is a haven for digital nomads. While being a digital nomad is not a new concept, it really took off after COVID-19 lockdowns when workplaces went almost fully remote. It gave people the freedom to travel outside of their homes and areas while still maintaining a full-time flexible job, or creating their own passive income. PREMIER SUITES offers a fantastic opportunity with comfortable, spacious accommodation in Amsterdam so you can live like a local. Book your stay in our serviced apartments in Amsterdam with one of our team and enjoy luxury, comfortable, secure accommodation close to the centre of the city.

What is a Digital Nomad?

While flexible and remote working is more available than ever post-pandemic, digital nomads are less common and have more freedom than those with a set workplace or employer. Without being tied to a specific location, digital nomads work almost exclusively away from home. Some travel nearly full-time, often without a schedule or a plan to stick to, following the wind and their mood! It’s common for digital nomads to have sold their homes and live out of suitcases, returning home occasionally. Digital nomads often have passive income from different businesses and affiliate websites, hiring other people to work for them, selling courses, writing e-books, investing money, and a lot of other things that will accumulate income, which they don’t have to actively work for. They work across a range of sectors from business to tourism and everything in between. It’s a lifestyle choice that suits a certain type of person and allows them the freedom to travel and thrive.

Digital Nomads in Amsterdam

Amsterdam and The Netherlands welcome digital nomads from all over the world. Schiphol Airport connects central Europe with some of the most important international bases in the world with direct flights to most European capitals and around the US.  Amsterdam is a digital nomad paradise with its picturesque canals and canal houses, cute boutiques and cosy cafes and restaurants. The café culture allows workers to relax and enjoy their working day without imposing on their accommodation and mixing business and leisure. The weather here is (usually!) reliable, cold weather with low temperatures in Winter and comfortably warm in Summer. There are dozens of festivals, concerts, and exhibitions in Amsterdam every year offering content opportunities for nomads and networking opportunities for short-stay travellers.

Unterkunft

Accommodation for digital nomads varies depending on the budget and standard expected. Amsterdam has everything from budget hostels to luxury hotels, depending on your individual needs. Home sharing and accommodation pooling are common and encouraged for digital nomads, splitting the cost of quality accommodation between couples and friends.

Digital Nomad Visas for Amsterdam

There is no digital nomad visa offered in the Netherlands. However, the country does offer an alternative option that nomads may use. Digital nomads may register as independent workers in the country with what is known as a long-stay visa, or MVV. You can work remotely from the Netherlands for any company in the world and you are completely covered by all Dutch employee benefits.  If a person is coming to the Netherlands for more than 90 days, they will need a residence permit. To get their residence permit, a person may first need an authorisation for temporary stay (MVV) to enter the country. A European Blue Card is a European work and residence permit for certain employees from outside the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA), or Switzerland.

With a multicultural population, a welcoming atmosphere and countless things to do in Amsterdam, digital nomads will feel right at home here. Contact PREMIER SUITES to find out more about long or short-stay serviced apartment accommodation in Amsterdam.
