Although Dublin is a magical place year-round, it is especially beautiful during the Summer. In Winter, there is a great hustle and bustle with thousands of shoppers stocking up for Christmas. Summer has a much more relaxed vibe; much more chilled and slower-paced. Here’s why Dublin is especially great in the Summer:
The Atmosphere
Once the weather is good, Dublin tends to be in a great mood. Unlike the winter months which can be dark and wet, summer here is bright (sometimes!) and the evenings are long and warm. Warm evenings usually mean people enjoy spending time outdoors, in their gardens, in parks and often in one of the many beer gardens around the city. And while queues at ice cream shops is often long, you can enjoy your delicious treats in one of the many beautiful parks speckled around the city. Our colourful residents are usually in a good mood when the sun shines and you’ll always hear a song or two from the talented buskers on Grafton St.
Events
Weekends in the summer, especially three-day ones like the August Bank Holiday Weekend in Dublin are choc-a-bloc with events in and around the city. There are free lunchtime concerts, dance, art & craft festivals and special interest events like the Dublin Horse Show or Dublin Comic Con. Dublin is a city where everyone is catered for and the warmer month’s means a lot of the events in Dublin can be held outdoors. If you’re planning a trip to Dublin, make sure to check the official events website to find out what’s on while you’re here: https://dublin.ie/whats-on/
Accommodation in Dublin
Accommodation in Dublin is usually an overpriced hotel or a hostel room without private facilities. If you’re looking for something a little bit different for your trip, opt for a Serviced apartment in Dublin instead. PREMIER SUITES offer all the space you need for a family trip or a group of friends on a cultural tour of Dublin without the rain (fingers crossed!). Restaurants are quite busy over the summer months so if you’d prefer to DIY and cook your own meals, our PREMIER SUITES offer a fully equipped kitchen including a fridge, dishwasher and all of the utensils you’ll need to prepare a slap-up meal without the waiting.
Variety is the spice of life
While Dublin is a great spot for a city break, it’s also great for a trip to the beach. Dublin is a real one-for-all vacation destination in the summer. If it rains, we have a lot of culturally and historically significant building, museums and galleries to visit. If the weather is good, head to one of the many green spaces or hop on a DART (Dublin’s intra-city rail service) to the beach to soak up the sun on one of the nearby beaches. And while we’re not promising blue skies and silky sand; Dublin’s coastal areas are rockier with cliff walks and beautiful promenades to stroll along. You could also enjoy a variety of mountainous walking treks just outside of the city. Check out more info on Dublin’s best beaches here: https://www.visitdublin.com/best-dublin-beaches
History & Heritage
While not exclusively a Summer activity, visiting some of Dublin’s historically significant sites is made so much more enjoyable in the sunshine rather than ducking and diving from the rain. Visit Dublin Castle in the heart of the city to learn more about the history of the city all the while enjoying the ambiance of the castle’s beautiful gardens. You can wander through the unofficial ‘museum quarter’, Merrion Square for a look at our Natural and National History Museums as well as the Science Gallery and the gorgeous Trinity College. You can also enjoy the many courtyards and gardens dotted around the city while you enjoy a coffee or ice cream.
If you’re looking for accommodation in Dublin this summer and beyond, PREMIER SUITES Ballsbridge is a great alternative to overpriced hotel rooms. We offer more space, amazing facilities and much better value than a traditional hotel stay, and our friendly staff are always willing to suggest ways for you to enjoy your summer trip to Dublin. Make sure to book directly to avail of our exclusive special offers.
