If there is one thing weekends were made for, it’s enjoying a leisurely and indulgent breakfast. Bristol is a hive of excellent places to eat for early risers, brunchers or those who love a lie-in and a late bite. A great Bristol breakfast isn’t hard to find so we’ve put together a short list of our favourite spots to grab a bite the morning, close to PREMIER SUITES, our short term apartments in central Bristol.
Portwall Tavern – 2-minute walk
If like us, you can’t go far in the morning without a coffee and a decent feed, Portwall Tavern will be your first stop. This traditional British pub is a perfect stop for a full English breakfast or any variation you prefer. The interior is unassuming and basic, exactly what you’d expect from a pub that has been going steadily since 1847. The laid back atmosphere is typical of a traditional UK pub making it perfect to grab a pint, watch a match or enjoy a home-cooked meal. Their early morning menu is varied and with great value, there is something for everyone.
Mud Dock Café – 5-minute walk
Would you like to enjoy your morning mean on a sunny roof terrace with panoramic views across the floating harbour? We can’t promise sunshine, but the Mud Dock Café offers a delicious cooked breakfast before 12 on weekdays and all the way to 3pm on weekends. You can choose from their extensive menu ranging from a traditional full English, lighter options like smashed avocado on toast or a healthy option of granola & fruit. For a real treat, spoil yourself with some of their unbelievable buttermilk pancakes. Breakfast in Mud Dock Cafe will set you up for a great day.
Quay Street Diner – 10-minute walk
Having risen from the ashes of ‘Roll for the Soul’, a non-profit café which was sadly closed down, comes Quay Street Diner, a Californian inspired restaurant and bar. Here you’ll find some Instagram friendly brunches and crave-worthy dinners, made from locally sourced produce. The ‘shared-dining’ style of décor isn’t ideal for those wanting a romantic meal but being surrounded by some of Bristol’s best artwork will make up for that. If you’re late to breakfast their extensive brunch menu is even more impressive and is served all day on a Sunday.
Café Kino – 20-minute walk
A little further out, about 20-minutes’ walk from our short term apartments Bristol, you’ll find one of the leading vegan breakfast spots in the city. Pioneers of Bristol’s vegan food scene, Cafe Kino started as a pop up in 1996 and graduated to a permanent residence in Stokes Croft in 2004, going from strength to strength ever since. They offer tasty, homemade vegan and vegetarian food including their acclaimed burgers, breakfasts, falafel, fresh salads and cakes but breakfast is the star of the show for us. They have a vegan full English & a variety of light bites but make sure to try their own-recipe Kino Muesli for a real treat. Kino is also a non-profit organisation & workers co-op meaning any profits they may make goes back into improving the café for staff and customers.
At the Well Café & Laundrette– 25-minute walk
For a very unique place to dine and to get some chores done, visit At The Well Café. A bright buzzing launderette and cafe with Wi-Fi, computer stations, printing services and live music, it has evolved into a social gathering spot and a place to meet neighbours, swap stories and build a community. The menu is small but by no means basic, with transatlantic foods like American pancakes, French toast and Korean Kimchi as standard. If you fancy a good old fashioned breakfast without frills, they also do a bacon sarnie, boiled eggs and soldiers and delicious granola.
