Christmas Lights in Glasgow
The start of the season is marked with the turning on of the Christmas lights. Every year, George Square is illuminated by thousands of twinkling lights and an impressive Christmas tree that is loved by many. It’s one of the highlights of the year seeing families and friends gather to celebrate the start of the most wonderful time of the year. This year’s event will be hosted by Clyde 1 radio presenters George Bowie and Cassi Gillespie. The programme will be packed full of festive fun, including live music, sing-alongs, a choir, and appearances by some of the cast of Pavilion Theatre pantomime Treasure Island. The switching on of the lights kicks off a series of festive events leading to 25th December.
Christmas Markets in Glasgow
Shopping in Glasgow is an experience all year round but in November and December, it’s heightened by the addition of some very festive pop-up markets. The Simply Christmas show at the SEC from 26th to 29th October and House for an Art Lover’s Christmas Fayre on 26 November are perfect opportunities to pick up handmade gifts and get Santa shopping off to a good start. The Artists Christmas Fair on 8th & 9th December 2023 In Arts Club Glasgow Bath Street will have a great selection of art, crafts, food, drink and music, with a focus on local and independent sellers. St Enoch Square becomes home to one of the most beautiful Christmas markets from 17 November– 3 January 2024. PREMIER SUITES Glasgow serviced apartments are a short walk from each market.
Festive Theatre in Glasgow
Scotland is a creative nation and one of the main cultural attractions of Glasgow is the vibrant theatre scene. We’re lucky at Christmas to have even more to look forward to with the return of musicals and Pantos too. Kings Theatre Glasgow is one of the largest in the city and is usually the home to the biggest and best panto of the year. This year the theatre puts its spin on children’s classic Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs from 2nd Dec to 7th Jan 2024. The popular movie Elf is reimagined in Elf the Musical by the Lyric Club at Kings Theatre Bath Street from 14th to 18th November 2023 with catchy tunes, spectacular sets, and a heartwarming storyline. Treasure Island is this year’s action-packed, hilarious family panto at The Pavilion Theatre from 30th November 2023 – 14th January 2024. We’re spoiled for choice!
