If you’ve ever been to Liverpool you’ll know how vibrant and exciting the city can be. If you haven’t, Christmas is a fantastic time to visit! The already bustling streets light up with shoppers, carolers and thousands of twinkling lights. Here are some of the highlights of the Christmas season in Liverpool.
Christmas Market
2018 sees the return of the fabulous Christmas Market in St George’s Hall. Enjoy mulled wine, festive food and some of the most unique products which will make a unique and memorable gift for your loved one this year. They have over 40 stalls from at home and abroad and selling all sorts of Christmas crafts, art and mouth-watering food. The market starts on 17 November and runs until 22 December so even the last-minute shoppers will have plenty of time to get there. Enjoy a well-deserved hot drink in the brand-new Windmill Bar to reward yourself for a successful day of shopping.
Ice Skating
Liverpool’s iconic Pier Head turns into a Winter Wonderland each year with the arrival of the Christmas Ice Festival. You can enjoy the delights of winter with a huge ice slide and ice rink so you can slip, slide and glide until your heart’s content. The rink is covered so you can enjoy skating regardless of what mother nature has in store. Ice skating is fun for all ages and skill levels, from beginners to pro and they also have a three-lane, high-speed, 30-metre ice run if you are very confident! The rink is surrounded by a funfair for the kids and pop-up food and drink stalls for the adults.
Christmas Theatre
If you are a fan of the age-old ‘A Christmas Carol’ written by Charles Dickens, Liverpool Playhouse Theatre have a treat for you. They have put together a fabulously funny rendition of the classic story, full of fun, fancy and festive treats. The traditional Christmas tale has been told again and again and never gets old, especially when it is brought into the 21st century by Spy Monkey, a very unique brand of slapstick comedy. It runs from Sat 8 Dec to Sat 12 Jan 2019 and tickets start at just £10.
Carol Service
If you prefer to celebrate Christmas in a more traditional way, visit one of our many churches and cathedrals for a Carol Service. A lot of the services will be accompanied by mulled wine and mince pie receptions along with markets and raffles with lots of Christmas goodies. The individual churches and venues will have different ticket options, but BBC Radio Merseyside have a free service at Hanover Street where you can donate money to Children in Need.
NYE
We all know Christmas doesn’t end after dinner on 25th, it carries on well into the end of the year and the start of the next!
Liverpool is a magical city to spend New Year’s Eve and with so much to see and do, it’s easy to see why.
