Dublin is always a great city to visit at any time of the year but at Christmas time it becomes even more magical with all the lights, Christmas trees and festive atmosphere! With most of the main lights being turned on mid-November and the darker evenings there is certainly that sense of something in the air!
It is a great city for shopping, we have two main shopping districts Grafton Street on the Southside and Henry Street on the Northside of the river Liffey, both will be buzzing with excitement and shops will be open late over the Christmas period and there will be the street entertainers on Grafton street which creates a wonderful atmosphere.
On Grafton Street you have stores such as Brown Thomas – our luxury department store and lots of high street retailers as well as independent boutiques. Stephen’s Green park is located just off Grafton street where you can enjoy a lovely walk. The Stephens Green Shopping Centre with 3 floors of shops has even more for you to explore. But don’t forget to venture down the many side streets with their beautiful cafes and bars for that quick pick me up we all need in between shops!
Henry Street is home to Arnotts, Pennys and Dunnes Stores and has not one but two shopping centres on it, the Ilac Centre & the Jervis centre. There are also extra market stalls around once the lights go on so with all this and O’Connell street only a few minutes away there are plenty of places for you to be spending those pennies!
But lets face it Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a visit to a market. So why not visit The Christmas market in the IFSC in the CHQ Building which runs from 8th to 23rd of December with all its different stalls selling all sorts of things from decorations to trees and of course the mulled wine and mince pie stalls to help pass the time as you let the kids play on the Carousel or big wheel.
Speaking of kids and not only the little ones but the big adult ones among us too who doesn’t enjoy a good pantomime? This year we have Red Riding Hood at the Gaiety theatre just off Grafton Street and a true Dublin version of Cinderella, The Ugly Sisters & Yer Wan will be playing at the Olympia theatre on Dame Street. Plus of course Santa’s Grottos will be popping up in several locations too.Â
So as you can see plenty to do in Dublin over the next few weeks and don’t forget we’re here at Premier Suites Ballsbridge should you wish to make it a bit more than just a day trip.
