The UK’s biggest celebration of cycle commuting is back in August 2023. It encourages residents to make use of their bikes, reducing carbon emissions and getting a little exercise on their way to work. At PREMIER SUITES we encourage guests to enjoy cycling around our cities every day. Cycling is an inexpensive way to get around, especially when you rent or borrow a bike from your accommodation. Many of our PREMIER SUITES locations in the UK and Europe, have bikes for rent or can help you to hire bikes from an external company. Ask our team in our serviced apartments for more information about cycling in their city.
Bristol
Like many UK cities, Bristol is very easy to get around by walking or on two wheels. Our team in Bristol recommend Cycle the City to their guests, a bike hire and tour company that comes tried and trusted. They not only provide bespoke tours and routes, their bikes are all locally designed and made in Bristol so you’re truly supporting local. Use your bike to get to Clifton Suspension Bridge and admire the stunning views of the city.
GlasgowÂ
Glasgow is a walkable but large city and getting around by bike is a great way to see more in a short time. Our team in Glasgow recommend Nextbike Glasgow, a bike-share service that works well. Register on the OVO app, rent your bike for as long as you like, park wherever you want or return it to an official OVO bike rental station. The maximum charge per day for a standard bike is £10 and they have electric bikes available too. OVO bikes also ride free on Tuesdays and there are dozens of pick-up locations around the city.
NewcastleÂ
Get around Newcastle in style on two wheels when you rent a bike from Ouseburn Bikeworks. This independent and honest bike rental service has locations on Quayside and Gosforth and are flexible with rentals. They also do service and repairs if you’re travelling with your own bike. If you’re travelling with your family, they do tandem rentals and have a supply of kids’ bikes and trailers so the whole gang can have a fun day out. Use your bike to explore Victoria Tunnel, Quayside and St James’ Park.
Birmingham
There is so much to do in Birmingham it might be hard to have time for it all during a city break. Birmingham has a fantastic bicycle hire scheme called West Midlands Cycle Hire Scheme to get you where you’re going fast, the closest station of which is just 2-minutes walk from our serviced apartments. The service is ideal for casual and occasional riders. You pay a £1 fee for unlocking the bike, then 5p per minute of cycling so you control your spending. They also have e-bikes to help with long distances or steep hills.
Reading
Our serviced apartments in reading go above and beyond to encourage guests to cycle. They have six bicycles which are free of charge for guests and staff to use. If you’re travelling with your own bike they have bike racks in the garage area or you can bring your bike to your suite for extra security. Use the free bikes to explore Thames Lido or Basildon Park, both slightly outside the city.
Dublin
Dublin has a couple of bike share schemes for visitors to enjoy. Dublin Bikes is the largest public bike hire scheme which anyone can sign up to. You can register for a one-day, three-day ticket or annual subscription, depending how often you visit. They’ve recently introduced e-bikes as part of the scheme to get you around with minimal effort. A one-day ticket costs as little as €3.50 and there are dozens of stations to return your bike when you’re done.
Amsterdam
Amsterdam is one of the most popular cities for cycling. There are more bicycles than people in the city with 22.8 million bikes at any given time! No surprise that our Amsterdam team have bikes available to rent to guests at no charge. They also provide free bike parking to guests or there is plenty of room in our service apartments to keep your bikes locked away.
Rotterdam
Rotterdam has a lot of cycle paths that make Rotterdam part of the City Region Rotterdam bike junction network. There are thousands of routes to follow and apps to download to enhance your cycling experience and see more of the city. You can even use the ferry services Waterbus and Aqualiner for free if you’re on a bike. For more information about the bikes to hire at PREMIER SUITES Rotterdam, simply ask one of our team. We’d be happy to help.
Antwerp
Antwerp is another very cycle-friendly city. It is compact, the infrastructure seems to be improving every year and you can easily get a shared bike.
