Have you ever visited Belgium’s gorgeous second city, Antwerp? If not, you’re in for a treat with museums, beautiful architecture and world-class shopping throughout. It can be quite difficult trying to navigate a new city, especially trying to figure out how to get around. Luckily public transport in Belgium is reasonably cheap & easy to navigate and the Antwerp tram app is free to download. Here are our tips for getting around in Antwerp:
Train
Did you know Belgium was the first European Country to build a railway system and today the country has a widespread rail network used by tourists and commuters alike? To get from place to place in Belgium is quite easy and many luxury trains stop in Antwerp’s Central Station which is 1 km from the city centre. To get between Antwerp train station to the city centre, you could walk, get a taxi or a tram to the city quite easily. PREMIER SUITES PLUS Antwerp is the perfect accommodation when you are travelling to Antwerp by train as it is located near the famous Central Station.
Tram
Trams in Antwerp are by far the easiest and most comfortable form of public transport in the city. The intricate & well-connected tram system is much easier to navigate if you have a digital copy of the Antwerp tram map, available on the Antwerp tram app which can also give you arrival & departure times and ticket information. The closest stop to PREMIER SUITES Antwerp is Lijnwinkel Antwerpen Centraal Station, just 5 minutes’ walk. If you’re unsure how to get your ticket for a tram, you can always use the handy SMS ticket. You can purchase SMS tickets for Antwerp’s De Lijn trams by texting DLD to 4884.
Bike
Antwerp really isn’t big enough to warrant renting a car for the duration of your stay, but you may not want to walk everywhere either. For a happy medium, and to ensure you’re getting your daily exercise, why not hire one on Antwerp’s public bikes on the Velo scheme. The city has many designated cycling zones and lanes and it’s a safe and easy way to get around. Each Velo bike comes with a built-in lock so don’t forget to lock it to a securely fixed object or drop it back to one of the designated points. Depending how often you visit, you may want a day pass, a week pass or a yearly pass to pick up and drop off bikes as often as you please. Use between 0-30 mins is free and it costs just €1 per hour after that. You can also choose for the option to rent a bike with us at PREMIER SUITES PLUS Antwerp. We rent bicycles at €9.5 for half a day, €13.50 for a whole day or €12.50/day when you rent a bike for more than one day.
