St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin

It’s one of the biggest holidays of the year, and no it’s not Christmas but St. Patrick’s Day! The 17th March is the day to celebrate St Patrick’s Day and of course all things Irish. It is celebrated in more countries around the world than any other national day, from the UK to Australia, quite simply everybody wants to be Irish!

Of course, Dublin is THE place to be with a large number of events organised over several days.

Visit the St. Patrick’s Festival website with all the details you need to plan your day. There is even a downloadable app available on this website so you don’t miss out.

A key highlight is the St Patricks Day Parade taking place from 12pm on the 17th starting from Parnell Square, the Parade continues down O’Connell Street with the Parade finishing around St Patricks Cathedral. It will be crowded so if you want a good viewing spot, you need to get there early! From PREMIER SUITES you can hop on the bus (number 4 or 7) which will drop you off near O’Connell Street. As it is a public holiday, there will be reduced bus and train services so allow plenty of time to plan your journey.

If the parade is not for you, then another healthier alternative is a good long walk. The charity AWARE have organised a walk Harbour 2 Harbour from Dun Laoghaire to Howth. This is a 16 mile (21km) walk along coastline along Dublin Bay. This is a five-hour walk so not for the faint-hearted! There is always the option of walking to the halfway point at Dublin Harbour only 8 miles along. From PREMIER SUITES, it is very easy to get to Dun Laoghaire, just a five-minute walk away is Sandymount DART station where you can catch the train (only a 12-minute journey) to Dun Laoghaire.

If walking sounds too strenuous, then there is always the popular option of sitting in the pub watching the world go by and there is plenty of those in Dublin! The capital has more than 1,000 pubs to choose from so you won’t go thirsty! Choose from some of the city’s oldest heritage pubs, all oozing with character, including The Stag’s Head, The Palace Bar, Mulligans, or Ryans of Parkgate Street. If you fancy sipping a pint while listening to great music try Whelan’s or O’Donoghues.

So whatever you choose to do, we hope you have a great St Patricks Day in Dublin!
