Top 5 Things to do in Liverpool this Spring

Whether you are travelling to Liverpool for business or pleasure, there is one thing you must know for sure. Not only are we known for four of the most famous pop stars ever to walk the planet, but our city makes for a great spring break destination. We have more parks than Paris, a constant variety of festivals and an extremely rich heritage. Liverpool is the combination of ‘contemporary cutting edge’ and it’s ‘historic maritime port life’. It’s a city with more award winning attractions and exciting activities than any other city outside of London. With its breath-taking architecture, and tremendous amount of public sculptures, you can spend spring days just walking the streets and soaking in Liverpool’s beauty.

We have compiled a list of our top 5 favourite things to do in Liverpool during the spring season. Though it was a tough choice, here are our selections:

The Beatles Story

Of course, our list begins with the one and only Beatles Story. Relive the era of Beatlemania at the Beatles Story Experience, as no tour of Liverpool is complete without taking in some of that Beatles history. Liverpool is the hometown of the legendary band and houses the award-winning Beatles Story exhibition. This attraction was so popular, they had to actually build a second location to accommodate for all the visitors. Many were interested in learning about the band and its lasting impact on the history of music. The tour is full of fun memorabilia, rare and never seen before photographs and interactive exhibits. Trace the lads through their Liverpool childhoods and early band days to the peak of fame and beyond!

Liverpool Cathedral

Built just after the turn of the 20th century, and completed in 1978, this is the largest Anglican cathedral in Europe, and the 5th largest in the world. The Cathedral is the most popular travel destination in Liverpool according to Tripadvisor. There are many spectacular and fascinating sites to take in when visiting, but the highlights are:

World’s highest and widest gothic arches
Tallest tower offering spectacular city wide panoramas
World’s highest and heaviest peal of bells
UK’s largest, most magnificent organ
Beauty of the Great West Window and thought provoking Tracey Emin sculpture
Many visitors take the awesome and free personal spiritual retreat. The intimate trail takes you on a private journey through the Cathedral pausing at ten points within the building to reflect on short readings about the building itself and accompanying bible verses or inspirational quotes.

Albert Dock

The Albert Dock dates back over 170 years, to 1839. However due to a long period of inactivity and lack of proper structure care and maintenance, it had to be completely reconstructed to be of viable use to Liverpool again. The Dock was officially reopened in 1988 and has the country’s largest group of Grade I listed buildings.

It has a great story. It was the first structure in Britain to be built entirely of cast iron, brick and stone, as well as the site of the world’s first hydraulic warehouse hoists.

Today, Albert Dock is home to the number one shopping district in all of Liverpool. It is the place for food, fun and family as it has everything from boats and Beatles to galleries and dancing. It has entertainment throughout the day and night and a definite ‘must see’ when in town during the spring.

Anfield Stadium

When visiting Liverpool, one must become aware that football is one of the city’s greatest passions. Liverpool Football Club gives access to their very own Anfield Stadium to visitors during the day when no games are scheduled. Visitors can tour the museum and stadium, and get behind-the-scene access to one of the best known soccer clubs in the world.

Anfield Stadium is one of the top rated attractions in Liverpool. Since 1892, the club has offered the city a football team to cheer and boast proudly about. They offer a variety of different tours and experiences to suit a variety of fan based needs, and even offer dining options. To get the full experience for Liverpool’s lifestyle, you must visit Anfield Stadium to feel the football love!

Sefton Park

Time for a city break? Spring is a magnificent time to visit this 235 acre park located in the Liverpool Sefton Park district. It is an award winning destination and has been classified as a Grade 1 historic park site due to the story it tells of its Liverpool heritage through the many statues and monuments residing in its greeneries. It is also home to the exquisite all glass Palm House, which encloses the beautiful Liverpool botanical gardens.

Visitors can enjoy exploring through the caves and viewing the spectacular waterfalls, as well as passing by the Victorian bandstand which is said to be the inspiration for the Beatles’ song Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts.
There are two cafes on the property, The Aviary Cafe which serves hot and cold refreshments, and The Lakeside Cafe which also has snacks and ice cream.

The park is open 24 hours a day, all year round, and is a great recommendation for some spring outdoor activity!
