What’s Happening In Newcastle This Christmas?

There is something special about Christmas in Newcastle. Nobody seems to mind the dark evenings, or the worsening weather when the lights are sparkling and the sound of Christmas carols fill the air. We are lucky that we have Newcastle Christmas markets, plenty of brilliant festive events and some very cosy pubs to warm up in. This year, book your stay in PREMIER SUITES serviced apartments Newcastle as early as possible to avoid disappointment over this busy season.

Christmas Lights:

The official start of the Christmas season in the city is the annual switching on of the Christmas lights. This year Newcastle welcome award-winning musician Sam Fender home to Newcastle to switch on the lights for us and kick off the silly season. The ceremony will be held on Blackett Street, just 10-minutes walking from our aparthotel Newcastle and they are expecting large crowds. From 5.30pm you can enjoy an hour of festive songs, entertainment, on-stage games and Christmas fun. The event is free, un-ticketed and wristbands are not required so just show up and enjoy the ambiance!

Ice Skating:

Just a stone’s throw from your serviced apartment in Newcastle you’ll find an unmissable festive tradition in Newcastle, Ice Skating! It’s taking place in the Life Science centre and is open almost every day in the run-up to Christmas and into New Year. You can book your session in advance up to the 5th January and it’s a great day out for families, friends and couples alike. You can combine your ticket to visit the Life Science centre too and it’s well worth a visit.

Newcastle Christmas Market:

Newcastle Christmas markets are bigger and better this year, extending from Grey’s Monument to Blackett Street and Northumberland Street from 16th November onwards. If you’re looking for a unique gift idea, something special for a loved one or just to stroll around with a hot chocolate drinking in the Christmas atmosphere, pay a visit to the market this year. There are over 70 stalls selling everything from artisan cheeses to home accessories and everything in between. You’ll find food stalls offering the best festive street food, drinks and sweets you’ll be dreaming about until next Christmas!

Panto:

Christmas just isn’t the same without a trip to the panto and a chorus of ‘HE’S BEHIND YOU!’. We are spoiled with a variety of Christmas pantomimes in Newcastle, each with their own version of a classic Christmas or fairy tale. You’ll find pantos’ in a variety of destinations, ranging from huge arenas to small community halls and a huge amount of effort has gone into each one. It’s a great day out for the family and there are usually plenty of ‘adult’ jokes that go straight over the heads of the little ones!

Carols:

Carols are our favourite part of the Christmas season. This year there will be a spectacular seasonal celebration in aid of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation in The Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas, just 5-minutes from PREMIER SUITES serviced apartments Newcastle. You’ll be filled with the sounds of the season, sung by some proud North East celebrities and special guests. Afterwards enjoy some festive drinks, canapes and chats with fellow carolers.
